January 25, 2009 COLUMBIA, S.C. –
South Carolina's lieutenant governor, Andre Bauer.
At a town hall meeting Thursday, Bauer, who is running for governor in his own right now that Sanford is term-limited, said (in reference to public assistance): "My grandmother was not a highly educated woman, but she told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals. You know why? Because they breed! You're facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a person ample food supply. They will reproduce, especially ones that don't think too much further than that."
Other than the absolute immorality of this comment, it is surpassingly strange coming from the son of a divorced mother who obtained free food at school for most of his childhood.
